MoT-recognised ATOAI members can avail satellite phones by May: ATOAI President

MP Government to develop airstrip near Hanuwantiya
In the next three months, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT)-recognised adventure tour operators can procure, register and use satellite phones on non-restricted adventure tourism circuits in India. This was revealed by Akshay Kumar, President, Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) at the inauguration ceremony of the association’s 12th Convention in Hanuwantiya, District Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.

Inaugurating the 12th ATOAI Convention and Jal Mahotsav at Hanuwantiya, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister, MP, outlined, “We aim to develop Hanuwantiya, the 950 sq km biggest water body in Asia on a public private partnership (PPP) model and promote adventure sports in the vicinity to add overnights to the destination. Connectivity is a major issue which will soon be addressed by the MP government by developing an airstrip near the destination. This will shorten the travel duration and increase footfalls to the mesmerising destination of Hanuwantiya. I call for private players to establish resorts and other tourism related activities at this place.”

Moreover, ATOAI and Madhya Pradesh Tourism also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as per which ATOAI would be conducting one-year skill development and capacity building certification course, especially for the rural population of MP. Under the same, basic training would be provided to conduct adventure sports in concerned areas. “Final details of the commencement of the course are in the pipeline,” said Tejbir Singh Anand, Chairman, ATOAI Convention 2016.

Addressing the delegates at the inaugural ceremony, M Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, praised the MP government for exploring and developing a potential tourist destination such as Hanuwantiya. “I hope to see Hanuwantiya on the map of inbound travellers soon,” he said.
