Agra-Jaipur Air India's flight to resume operations from July 16th, tourism industry ecstatic

According to India Today, after four-month long hiatus, the Agra-Jaipur flight of Air India will again start flying between these two cities from July 16th albeit at a changed time.

This news has generated a feeling of joy in the tourism industry of Agra, as with the withdrawal of Agra-Jaipur Shatabdi by the Indian Railways, tourists were currently forced to make a long 4-5 hour journey to Jaipur by road and with the flight starting again, it is expected to operate at full capacity like its previous operation in December last year.

Talking to India Today, Airport Authority of India officials confirmed that the flight will be operating four days a week, taking off from Jaipur in the morning at 6:50 am and landing in Agra at 8 am. It will take off from Agra at 8:30 am and land in Jaipur at 9:30 am and Air India has scheduled the ATR-72 aircraft for this route instead of the ATR-48 it was flying earlier due to the heavy seat occupancy on the route. The flight will be operated on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Air India officials confirmed that this flight will not be operated from Delhi this time and the Jaipur airport will be the base for this sector. They claimed that the morning flight will bring a lot more traffic to Agra than the afternoon flight that was being operated previously but had to be withdrawn due to the one-month long upgradation of the Jaipur airport.

The flight remained postponed for four months after that due to the unavailability of aircrafts at the previously scheduled time, so the new schedule was charted, skipping Delhi altogether and making use of the aircraft available at the Jaipur airport for this sector.

Tourism Industry Ecstatic

Tourism Guild of Agra chairman Arun Dang welcomed the resumption of flights between Agra and Jaipur and said that this flight will increase Agra's connectivity to several metropolitan cities and tourism centers of the country, including Mumbai, Goa, and Ahmedabad.

This flight will also connect Agra to Kolkata which was a potentially profitable route for every airline but had never been fully explored. He lamented on the fact that Delhi had been cut-off from this sector as Agra-Jaipur and Delhi form a 'Golden Triangle' of tourism and a flight connecting all the three cities would have been a great addition to this tourism circuit.

He said that such a flight should not be operated on alternate days and should fly daily, also connecting Delhi to this sector.

Shamshuddin, the president of the Approved Guides Association said that if the flight had started from Delhi in the morning, landed in Agra and then taken off to Jaipur, coming back this way to land in Delhi in the evening, it would have been a wonderful gift to Agra. Already, he said, there are plenty of flights between Delhi and Jaipur and it did not take much planning to divert one of those flights to land in Agra while en route to Jaipur and complete the Golden Triangle.
