Airlines rejig flights schedule to beat winter fog, visibility issues

According to a report by Ruchir Kumar, in The Hindustan Times, Patnaites’ option to fly to Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ranchi will be curtailed, with IndiGo and Goair initially withdrawing altogether seven flights by December 1, while introducing a flight each in the afternoon, to beat the early morning fog and visibility issues here.  Other airlines like Spicejet, Jet Airways and Air India, operating from Patna, were yet to firm up their winter schedule.  The Goair had planned to withdraw two flights to Delhi and one to Mumbai. Its withdrawal began Monday with the cancellation of the Delhi-patna-delhi flight (G8 135/134). It was also withdrawing from December 1 its evening Delhi-Patna-Delhi flight (G8 217/218), which has a scheduled departure of 8.05pm at present.

However, the airline was introducing a Delhi-Patna-Delhi flight (G8 131/132) from November 24. The flight (G8 131) will leave Delhi at 2.05pm and reach here at 3.35pm. On its return, the flight (G8 132) will have a scheduled departure of 4.05 pm from Patna so as to reach Delhi at 5.45pm.  Goair’s afternoon connection (G8 585) on the Mumbai-patna-Ranchi-mumbai sector, with a scheduled departure of 2.10pm now, will also stand withdrawn from December 1.  To minimise impact of fog on flight operations, the IndiGo was also planning to cancel four of its present flights from December 1. Among those to be cancelled are three flights to Delhi, one of which was till Mumbai, and another on the Patna-Lucknow-Mumbai sector, said Kumud Ranjan of Mamta Travels, an International Air Transport Association (IATA) approved travel agent here.

Among the IndiGo flights to be withdrawn from December 1 are the Bangalore- Kolkata- Patna-Lucknow- Mumbai flight (6E 339), which has a scheduled departure of 11am now. Also to be withdrawn will be two Delhi-Patna-Delhi flights — 6E 612, scheduled departure at 9.05am and 6E 6387 with departure 10.45 am.  Another morning flight (6E  634) on the Patna-Delhi-Mumbai sector, which has a scheduled departure of 9.50 am, will stay cancelled till early February, said Ranjan.  In rejigging its flights schedule, the Indigo will introduce a Patna-Lucknow-Delhi flight, having a scheduled departure of  8.20pm. Ranjan said, the IndiGo used to operate this flight a couple of months back but had suspended it due to operational reasons.

The IndiGo, which now has the first departure from Patna at  9.05am, will operate its first flight at 2.35pm in the changed winter schedule from December 1. It will then have four direct flights to Delhi and one hopping via Lucknow. The airline has the maximum number of departures — 13, down from 14 in October — from Patna.  The Spicejet had yet not finalised its winter schedule. Ranjan said the airline could stop its morning Mumbai-Patna-kolkata-surat flight (SG 876) and the evening Surat-kolkata-Patna-Mumbai flight (SG 877). “Instead, it may rework a flight on the Mumbai- Kolkata- Patna- Kolkata- Surat- Mumbai sector, with changed timings,” he added.  The Spicejet presently connects Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Surat from Patna.  Air India had yet not altered the schedule of its three existing direct flights to Delhi and one Alliance Air flight to Lucknow daily from Patna.
