Goa Tourism targeting 5 million tourists by 2016

The number of tourists coming to Goa has increased during the past two years and the State Tourism Department is targeting five million tourists in Goa by 2016. “This is the goal of Goa government,” said Dilip Parulekar, Minister for Tourism, Woman & Child Development, Government of Goa, while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of 17th national seminar organised by national media foundation, New Delhi at Institute Menezes Braganza hall Panaji on Saturday.

"Now that Goa's Member of Parliament Shripad Naik, who knows what tourism is, has been given the Ministry for Tourism in the Central government, we can hope for bright days for Indian tourism," said Parulekar, as per a TOI report.

Also present on the occassion were Balyogi Umesh Nathji Maharaj and Rajendra Jain, National President, National Media Foundation; G K Pai, Director, DD News (Doordarshan Goa); and Amar Singh Tomar, former Director of Public Relations, Government of Rajasthan. Delegates from 20 states of India participated in the seminar.
