KAYAK reveals the next 10 destinations to visit before the masses

KAYAK, a travel search engine, has analysed data from millions of searches to gain insights into its users’ interests and where they are heading. With its release of the KAYAK “Better-Now-Than-Later” Report for travel trendsetters in Asia Pacific, the travel experts reveal the next ten destinations deserving of a top spot in your year-end and 2018 travel checklists.

The report shows that Ko Samui, whilst only ranking as the 152nd most popular destination amongst Indian travellers, ranked first in the emerging destinations rankings, registering a year-on-year growth of 225%, followed by Cairo (+214% year-on-year) and Venice (+207% year-on-year).

Also numbering amongst the top ten emerging destinations for Indians are Prague, in the Czech Republic, Penang, Malaysia, and the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. Many of these destinations are ones that you’ve probably already heard about from your friends and relatives - they’re just not plastered all over your Instagram account yet. As for domestic Indian destinations, the report recognises Guwahati (154% year-on-year), Thiruvananthapuram (146% year-on-year), Port Blair (138% year-on-year), Dehradun (134% year-on-year) & Jodhpur (104% year-on-year) as the top up-and-coming destinations.

How about other Asia Pacific travellers - where are they starting to explore? The report also shows information for travellers from the other 11 markets in the region. While the top three trending destinations – Saipan, Macau, Nagoya, may sound familiar to avid travellers, the next four may spark your wanderlust – Vladivostok, Ulan Bator, Kota Kinabalu, and Havana.

The report looks at destinations outside of the usual top-searched destinations, instead focusing on the holiday hotspots with the greatest increase in interest among Indian travellers.

Abhijit Mishra, Country Director, India at KAYAK, said, ‘We often see different groups of friends posting about the same destinations at the same time on social media, but there are many other must-go destinations that are equally Instagram-worthy. KAYAK is here to help travellers discover destinations that they never even knew they wanted to visit, and with this report, we hope we can help holiday planners uncover their next best holiday hotspots.’

He further noted, ‘The analysis also shows us how Indian travellers are allured by unexplored destinations within the country. The cities of Guwahati (The window to the Northeast of India), Thiruvananthapuram & Port Blair are well known for their enchanting beauty, exquisite cuisine and friendly folk. With the Government’s latest scheme to promote regional connectivity, we can expect more off-beat destinations could attract tourists in the country.’
