India emerges as the 3rd largest market for Adelaide Oval

India is the 8th largest source market for the Australia and the 3rd biggest for the Adelaide Oval. The stadium witnessed a surge in Indian tourist arrivals during the ICC India-Pakistan World Cup game in 2015, and is expecting to surpass this number for the upcoming matches in 2020. Adelaide Oval will host the ICC World T20 2020 for women from February 21 to March 8, and men’s tournament from October 18 to November 15.

According to Lucy Johnson, Marketing & Communication Manager, said, “The number of hotel rooms in Adelaide has increased by more than 25% since 2010. Four hotels have opened in 2015/16 with 698 new rooms and 13 hotels with 2,250 rooms have been announced for opening in 2019-20, exceeding USD 1 billion in Adelaide CBS investment.”

Elaborating on the new attraction at Adelaide Oval, Johnson said, “The stadium offers a unique opportunity of experience the RoofClimb, where travellers can walk along the Oval’s impressive roofline, take in the spectacular views of the city, beach and beyond, as well as offering the best seats in the house - a 16-seat viewing deck, 50 metres high above the Riverbank stand.”

Dana Urmonas, Regional Director (India & Southeast Asia), South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) said, “One of the major reasons for the popularity of South Australia is the variety of experiences that one can discover in and around the capital city of Adelaide. The experiences range from world-class food & wine, to stunning nature and native wildlife across several regions around Adelaide such as Adelaide Hills, Barossa, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island. The top 3 markets for us are the UK, China and New Zealand where we are targeting the leisure travellers.”

According to the Consumer Demand Report release by Tourism Australia, Indians travelling to Australia are looking to enjoy beauty and nature, beaches and marine wildlife. “South Australia, which ranks high on these factors, has been steadily moving up the consideration set with Kangaroo Island ranking number 3 among the most considered Australian destinations, after Sydney and Melbourne,” Urmonas added.
