Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings plans to add 6 ships to its fleet by 2025

Nasdaq-listed Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) plans to add 6 new ships by 2025 to its current fleet of 26 vessels. This announcement comes in the wake of increasing desire and awareness of cruise tourism backed by popularity of its ships across the world, including India.

In an interaction with TravelBiz Monitor, Felix Chan, VP - Sales, Asia, NCLH, said, “India has tremendous potential when it comes to cruise tourism. Currently about 150,000 passengers cruise from India annually; this is much lower than the global numbers. We are still scratching the surface here, though we see appetite of cruise travel in India increasing at a fast pace. In another recent interview, the company has also shared that that the business of Norwegian Cruise Line from India has doubled in 2017 as compared with the year ago period.

Talking about the traveller trends in India, Chan said “Indian cruise travellers are evolving. We see a clear inclination towards the overall value and experience over anything else. We see a lot of people upgrading their suites just to enhance their experience. There is a steady increase in traffic for both NCL, which is targeted at family and Regent of the Seas, catering to luxury travelers, from India.”

Chan said that the competition in India is healthy and in fact helps in development of the overall market. “The market itself is too big, offering enough space for everyone to grow.”

Elaborating on its marketing strategy for India, Chan said “We are known for our great product and services and we intend to build. We choose to spend our money on enhancing our product and services instead of building huge marketing campaign. Thanks to this we enjoy a loyal base of travellers and high repeat ratio.”

The company’s latest ship Norwegian Bliss is also ready to make its debut in the summer of 2018. NCLH operates Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises brands.
