STB to strengthen India presence with dedicated focus on three thrust areas

India elevates to third position in terms of top overseas visitors
With India emerging as its third largest inbound market with 1.1 million visitors during January to October 2017, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has come up with three thrust areas to further strengthen its presence in this market. As part of this agenda, STB will deepen and expand engagements with the travel agents and also focus on non-trade partnerships. Secondly, STB will creatively and effectively entrench its latest ‘Passion Made Possible’ campaign among the Indian travellers. Lastly, STB will engage with five segments - families will children, working millenials, cruise & incentive travellers and visitors from Tier-II and III cities in 2018. This was informed by Srithar GB, Regional Director, South Asia, Middle East & Africa, STB. While addressing the press at a media roundtable during STB’s roadshow in Mumbai at the Four Seasons yesterday.

Throwing light on the arrival numbers, Srithar said, “Singapore welcomed 1.1 million visitors from India as of October 2017, which represents a 17% increase. We reached the 1.1 million mark of visitors from India during the 12 months of 2016. India is the largest growth market for Singapore, and importantly has moved to the third position, after China and Indonesia, and ahead of Malaysia. India is the third largest contributor for visitor arrivals and tourism receipts for Singapore, and the country continues to be the number one market for cruise travel.” He also highlighted that incentive travel from India to Singapore has seen good movement.

The roadshow witnessed participation of over 30 suppliers comprising hotels, DMCs and attractions. Srithar believes that the presence of a strong trade delegation from Singapore is a clear indication of the importance they accord to India.
