Desaru Coast of Malaysia looking for a share of Indian MICE & weddings

Desaru Development Holdings says the integrated resort is fully ready for international business
Having developed world-class tourism infrastructure in terms of theme park, hotels, golf clubs, convention centre, etc., Desaru Development Holdings, the agency credited with the development and marketing of premium integrated resort destination, Desaru Coast in Malaysia, is keen to tap into the burgeoning Indian MICE and destination weddings segment. Considering the destination’s proximity to Singapore, the agency is also anxious to see if Desaru Coast is combined with Singapore packages as a two to three-night extension to the existing packages.

Desaru Coast has added numerous facilities over the last one year to become an integrated resort destination to reckon with in South East Asia. Desaru Coast Adventure Water Park is one of the largest in the region. A new convention facility, Desaru Coast Conference Centre, was opened in December 2018, with a capacity to hold events of 1,000 pax capacity. The two golf courses on the Desaru Coast together have 45 holes. On the hospitality and accommodation front, the first luxury hotel in the resort, The Hard Rock Hotel, has started soft operations with 165 rooms last year, and will be fully operational with 365 rooms by mid-2019. Two more international hotel chains, The Westin and Anantara are expected to welcome guests later this year. In the pipeline is The One & Only luxury property as well.

“We want to tell everyone that we are ready now to welcome Indians. We can offer enough programnes and activities to keep them engaged for two to three nights,” said Roslina Arbak, CEO, Desaru Development Holdings during her recent visit to participate in SATTE.“It’s a new international holiday destination only 1.5 hour by road from Singapore. Desaru Coast is also accessible from Kuala Lumpur by 45-minute flight to Johor,” she said. “The Indian market is looking for newer destinations for events and weddings. Desaru Coast can offer a perfect setting for such requests,” she added.

As Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are popular selling destinations for Indians, Arbak said that the endeavour initially would be to convince DMCs to plug in Desaru Coast as an extension. She said that the Desaru offers diverse of products and activities for discerning travellers. The 17-km beach can satiate the quest for water sports. Farm visits and eco-tourism experiences are also quite popular with travellers, and for shopping, Johor offers unparalleled choices, she added.
