FAITH apprises Union Tourism Minister about criticality of favourable GST regime

A delegation of Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH) met Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism Government of India and apprised the minister about the criticality of a favourable Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime for the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry. They also convinced the minister about the perils of an unfavourable GST regime for the future growth of the industry.

According to FAITH communiqué, the Minister understood the criticality of amending Section 2(44) (c) in draft GST law for exports status and the significance of keeping a GST rate less than 10% for domestic tourism industry. Dr Sharma proposed proper engagement to sensitise key political leadership at the union government level of this criticality and how a favourable GST regime for tourism can spur jobs induced by tourism up to 9 crores across our hinterlands, and boost our forex inflow to USD 30-35 billion annually.
