GHE from India wins World Tourism Forum Award at Lucerne, Switzerland

Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE), an Indian social enterprise promoting impact tourism, won the first ever "Start-Up Innovation Award" at the fifth World Tourism Forum, Lucerne, Switzerland. GHE was chosen a winner from the "Start-Up Innovation Camp" which was set up with the aim of promoting new and innovative tourism business models.

170 young entrepreneurs from 50 nations had applied for the particular award category. GHE was represented by Founder Paras Loomba at the event, who received a CHF 20,000 ‘Start-up Innovation Award’ along with free participation opportunity in a professional coaching programme for the next two years.

A specialist Start-Up Jury presided over by Martin Bath, CEO, World Tourism Forum Lucerne and Swiss business angel and investor Roland Zeller selected the most promising enterprises in four categories – Impact, Transaction, Destination and Hospitality. The conference was attended by Taleb D. Rifai, Secretary General, UNWTO.

Paras also presented the GHE model to the jury of tourism specialists, business angels and investors, who after day long deliberations and discussions adjudged GHE as the winner of the Start-Up Innovation award. He was later invited to present the GHE case study to all 500 participants in this year's World Tourism Forum Lucerne.
