Israel records 13.2% growth in Indian arrivals in 2015

Israel welcomed 40,000 tourists from the Indian market in 2015, registering a growth of 13.2% compared to the 12 months of 2014. Talking about the statistics, Hassan Madah, Director, India, Israel Ministry of Tourism, said, "In 2014, we received around 35,000 tourists from India. The main tourist segment for Israel is pilgrimage. The statistics for 2015 is a mix of business, leisure and pilgrimage. Around 20% of the entire share is business travel, 45%-50% is pilgrimage and the rest is leisure." He was talking to TravelBiz Monitor on the sidelines of IITT Mumbai on Saturday.

This year Israel Tourism is looking at focusing on B2C activities. "We are looking at elevating the growth from the Indian market. We have tripled the marketing budget for tourism for the Indian market, the negotiations for which are still on. We will run a marketing campaign during the summer season."

Besides IITM, Israel Tourism will be participating in SATTE Delhi and OTM this year, and plans are underway to conduct roadshows for the Indian travel trade. Currently, India does not figure among the top 10 global source markets for Israel Tourism.

"However, in terms of tourist arrivals from Asia, India is the biggest market," he said. The Tourism Board will target the metro cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata in 2015. "We receive major chunk of leisure travellers from the metro cities. Therefore, we are focusing on these cities."
