Air India starts flights on New Delhi-Dharamsala route

Air India started regular flights between New Delhi and Dharamsala and Kullu recently, an airport official said, the IANS reported. This is the first service in eight months as only Kingfisher Airlines operated services between New Delhi and three airports in Himachal Pradesh - Jubbarhatti, Gaggal (Kangra airport in Dharamsala) and Bhuntar. There have been no flights in all three airports after Kingfisher Airlines was grounded last October, affecting tourist and business travellers to the state.

Kuldeep Sharma, Airport in-Charge of Kangra airport said that the airline is operating the service with a 48-seater turboprop ATR aircraft. Likewise, Air India also started its regular flight between Delhi and Kullu.

Sudhir Sharma, Urban Development Minister, Himachal Pradesh said SpiceJet is also keen to start its regular flights from Delhi to Dharamsala. "SpiceJet is awaiting approval from the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation)," Sharma said.
