Tourism Ministry confident of making a show out of maiden ITM within available time

First ever India Travel Mart (ITM) to be held in Delhi from September 16 to 18, 2018.
Although the list of international buyers to be invited for the maiden India Tourism Mart (ITM), a travel showcase for Incredible India imagined by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and to be executed through Federation of Associations of Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH), is yet to drawn and finalised, and the number of Indian buyers are also uncertain, the organisers of the show are quite confident about pulling out ITM as a “top event of Indian travel and tourism” within the available time. The maiden ITM will be held in Delhi at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, between September 16 to 18, 2018.  

Ministry of Tourism has convened a meeting of State Tourism Secretaries in Delhi today to seek their support and participation in the first ever Tourism Mart.

Making an announcement about the event in Delhi, KJ Alphons, Minister of State for Tourism (I/C), Government of India said that last year has been extremely good for Indian tourism with both Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) and Foreign Tourist Receipts (FTR) growing at a rate of 15.6% and 20.8% respectively. The Ministry has been taking all proactive steps to create buzz about the destination through road shows, digital campaigns, etc. He said that the target before the government is to double the international arrivals and tourism receipts in the next three years, and ITM is a step in that direction. “We want global buyers to come to India and meet our States and private stakeholders and strike lasting deals,” he said.

Minister said that ITM will be made an annual feature and the dates for the next five years will be announced during the Delhi event.

Explaining the schedule of the ITM, Rashmi Verma, Secretary Tourism, Government of India said that they are expecting more than 300 international buyers, opinion makers and bloggers. She said that a committee has been constituted to finalise the list of international buyers so that best are invited. Apart from Indiatourism offices, the Indian missions abroad, Air India and few foreign airlines have also been asked to shortlist names, she said.

Subhash Goyal, General Secretary of FAITH said that a Travel Mart for India was a cherished dream of the travel industry for last so many years. He said that all stakeholder associations will be supporting the show. About 900 rooms have already been blocked by Hotel associations, he added.
