Trafalgar records 49% growth in business from India in 2017

Trafalgar Tours, a subsidary of The Travel Corporation providing guided holidays, has witnessed 49% growth in business from the Indian market. Ranking fourth in terms of source markets for the tour company in the Asian market, India contributed around 15% to the total business from the continent. Asia contributes 23% of the total business globally for Trafalgar.

Nicholas Lim, President, Trafalgar - Asia, speaking at Trafalgar's inaugural Insider Session for travel agents in Mumbai said that India is a star market for Trafalgar. "After Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia, India is the best performing market for us in Asia. Out of two travellers that chose us for holidays in 2016, one traveller showed confidence in choosing us again in 2017. In terms of repeat travellers, Trafalgar has been performing extensively with 52.2% repeat travellers in 2017 globally," Lim stated.

For Trafalgar, apart from popular destinations like Spain, Switzerland and France, Ireland has emerged as the most popular emerging destination among the Indian outbound. Lim expressed that Eastern European destinations, Croatia, Italy and Portugal have been picking up interest among the Indian travellers in last few years.

Elaborating more about the Indian market, Lim stated that around 90% of the business from Indian market comes from FIT and leisure segment, while 10% constitutes from group tours. "We have seen growth in terms of bleisure travellers from India in last few years. Groups of MICE travellers are choosing Trafalgar for leisure purposes after their business activities are over"

Trafalgar hosted its inaugural Trafalgar Europe & Britain Day in Mumbai today as part of its continuing efforts to provide travel agents a way to learn about travel destinations in Europe and Britain like an insider. Four European Tourism offices participated in this first-of-its-kind showcase namely Atout France, Tourism Ireland, Tourism Office of Spain and Switzerland Tourism.

Trafalgar’s Insider Sessions will take place in Bengaluru on February 9 at WelcomHotel.

Commenting on the Insider Session, Lim said, "We have a portfolio of over 250 products globally out of which 160 products belong to European region. Through this Insider session we aimed at expanding the knowledge of our travel partners about Europe in particular and educated on the new product offerings across Europe."

In terms of marketing and promotion of Trafalgar in the Indian market, the company is working on organising roadshows and more Insider seminars this year to expand its B2B network. However, the dates of these future activities haven't been decided yet. Counting on its e-learning programme available hosted on its own website, and one on one meetings with the travel agents and trade partners in India, Lim has predicted the business to grow by 15% in 2018.

Additionally, Trafalgar has announced 100% definite departures for over 40 destinations in Europe for the summer travel period till October. "100% definite departures will assist travel agents in booking tours for their customers well in advance without the risk of last minute cancellation," Lim stated.
