Due to the global economic meltdown and recession in the market, the company decided to shut shop in India. When contacted, Jared Blank, CEO, said, “We’ve done everything we could, but we don’t see an end in sight to the slowing travel and advertising market, and we simply don’t have the cash to ride it out.”

Tripmela's business model was one about generating leads through travel newsletters and fare comparison and is a proven business model in the US. has also built an opt-in email database of more than 80,000 subscribers but was not able to monetise the same effectively. Blank said, “We have put the business up for sale on eBay India to sell both and What I think is more valuable is our database of more than 80,000 subscribers, which is on sale too.
