India liberalises business visa regime for Chinese nationals

According to Hindustan Times, India has liberalised the business visa regime for Chinese citizens, Deputy Ambassador Acquino Vimal said as bilateral trade inches towards the USD100-billion-mark for the first time.

Chinese businessmen can now apply for an “electronic” visa and stay up to 183 days in India without registering with local authorities, he said.

“Since March 2019, the e-visa facility for Chinese businessmen has been also expanded. We are now issuing one-year multiple entry e-business-visa, with a provision to stay up to 183 days without any registration with local authorities. This has considerably eased the travel of Chinese businessmen to India. I’m sure Chinese companies will benefit from this,” Vimal said.

Elaborating on the expanding trade ties with China, Vimal added, “The number visits by trade and investment delegations have increased. The comfort and trust levels have improved. This is demonstrated in the increase in the number of visas we have been issuing in the last few months. We are glad that our bilateral trade will cross the significant mark of USD 100 billion this year.”

The bilateral trade deficit in 2018, according to Chinese official data, however, climbed to USD 57.86 billion from USD 51.72 billion in 2017.
