AAI postpones Jaipur Airport runway extension work to 2013 summer

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has postponed the construction work of extending the runway at Jaipur Airport, as per a TOI report by Ajay Singh. The decision came after Ashok Geholt, Chief Minister of Rajasthan and other MPs have expressed apprehensions to start the construction work during winter time as it peak tourist season in the state. Moreover, closing the runway daily during the day time will hit the tourism adversely. An official explained, "The AAI has proposed to close the runway daily from 1100 to 1800 hours during winter schedule, starting October. However, this is not feasible as it is the peak tourist season. The AAI will take up the extension work next summer."
