Accreditation of hospitals to boost Medical Tourism in India

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) recently held a seminar on ‘Accreditation of Hospitals’ at India Habitat Centre (IHC) in the capital to create awareness about accreditation of hospitals among medical professionals in India, to thereby create a healthy India and brand the country as a Medical Tourism destination. At the seminar, Dr Ajit K Nagpal, Chairman, CII Healthcare Sub Committee on PPP and Chairman, Batra Hospital, New Delhi informed that CII will support hospitals which are in the accreditation process and for this CII will proceed ahead under the guidance of National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) which is an accreditation body of hospitals in India. Currently, it has accredited about 29 hospitals in India.

The seminar emphasised on the need for certification in every aspect and procedures of hospitals such as cleaning, quality of staff, employee qualification, expertise and medical equipment et al and stressed that accreditation process should be voluntarily done and not mandatory. According to Nagpal, accreditation increases the standard of hospitals in India
