Air India will not shift operations to new Terminal ID at IGI Airport, Delhi

The national carrier, Air India announced yesterday that it will not shift its operations to the new departure Terminal 1D at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, which is set to commence operations in the first week of April this year. An Air India spokesperson informed that the airline will continue to operate from the existing 1A Terminal. According to an IANS report, airport officials said all other airlines, including Low Cost Carries, have already started shifting their operations to the new Terminal 1D.

The Terminal 1D set up at an investment of Rs five billion (Rs 500 crore), will be capable of handling all outbound domestic passengers. It was inaugurated on February 26, 2009 by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. A spokesperson of Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL), which operates IGI Airport, also confirmed that Air India will continue operating from the 1A Terminal. The airport officials also informed that along with Air India, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways are also not willing to shift to Terminal 1D as they will have to shift to the Terminal T3 - the upcoming integrated terminal next year.
