Air Seychelles (HM), which is the national carrier of Seychelles has reduced agency commission to one per cent from seven per cent on gross fare. The new commission structure will be effective from September 1, 2009. This information was divulged by Deepak Gaikwad, Manager, Air Seychelles (Mumbai).
When contacted, Raji Rai, President, Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) said that it was not sensible on part of any airline to move to zero commission or reduces commission. This move, according to Rai, will impact the promotion of such destinations and airlines. He further added that agents have to get remuneration for selling tickets; otherwise they may not be encouraged to promote airline and the destination.
Biji Eapen, President, IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI) added, “It is not surprising that Air Seychelles has taken this decision. It is apparent that they do not need the support of travel agents, then why should we sell their product. Now is the time for us to ignore the existence of such an airline.” While Subhash Verma, Managing Director, Travel Plus opined that the country is an expensive destination. Only celebrities |
