Ambassadors of various ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) countries in India will shortly visit North Eastern states of India to explore the possibilities of investments in fields of tourism and trade in these states. The visit will be at the behest of the Ministry for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India. A decision in this regard was taken recently at a meeting between B K Handique, Minister for Mines and DoNER with the Ambassadors of Thailand and Myanmar in New Delhi.
As per the Ministry communiqué, the visit will be in two phases. In the first phase, the Ambassadors will visit three states in North East region i.e. Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura. Visits to Sikkim, Nagaland, and Arunachal will be part of the second stage. The visit of the Ambassadors has been organised as part of the ‘Look East Policy’ of Government of India, and also as part of the wider initiative to realise the goals of Vision 2020 for the comprehensive development of North East region. |
