Assam government appoints Deepak Sharma as Advisor – Tourism

The Government of Assam has appointed Deepak Sharma as Advisor to the government on matters related to tourism.  As an Advisor, Deepak Sharma will help the government and the Department of Tourism, Government of Assam to formulate a comprehensive action plan for promotion of Assam as a tourism destination. He will also advise the government on matters related to investments in the tourism sector of the state.  

With almost two decades of experience in the tourism sector, Sharma was instrumental in formation of tourism circuits in the Northern states of India, and was the Member Secretary in the committee that created the Golden Triangle Circuit comprising Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. He was Secretary General of Hotel & Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI) for almost 13 years, and also the Secretary General of Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI).

When asked about his priorities as Advisor- Tourism to the government, Sharma said, “Although Assam has vast tourism products; the potential was not recognised and tapped suitably so far.
