ATM: Making a difference

Over the years, Arabian Travel Market (ATM) – Middle East’s premium travel mart has come a long way. Anita Jain traces ATM’s beginning and the strategy behind the sustained growth in number of participants each year

Part of Reed Travel Exhibitions portfolio, which includes 15 of the world’s well known travel industry events, Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in its inaugural edition in 1994 witnessed participation of 300 companies from 52 countries and about 7,000 visitors (including 2,500 consumers). The first mart was held at Dubai World Trade Centre and 50 per cent of the exhibitors were from countries outside the Middle East. Over the years, the exhibition has gained momentum around the world and is currently considered as one of the finest example of global travel mart.

Last year, the mart witnessed participation of 2,229 exhibitors (from 70 countries) who showcased their products to a total of 14,046 visitors which included 2,752 non trade (end consumers) visitors. The mart also boasted close to 90 new-to-market exhibitors, as well as increased space intake from over 62 national tourist bodies with products and services representing 70 countries. This year, the event is being held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Dubai from May 5-8, 2009.
