ATOAI Convention 2009 to focus on reducing carbon footprint

The annual convention of Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) Convention scheduled from January 16 to 18, 2009 at Dehradun in Uttarakhand will focus on conducting a green and carbon-free event. The theme of the three-day convention is ‘New face of Indian adventure travel’ and it will discuss issues relating to Adventure Tourism in India. The Government of Uttarakhand will host the convention with Madhya Pradesh as the partner state. The venue of the Convention will be announced next week as the Government of Uttarakhand is awaiting approval of the Ministry of Tourism (MoT). Around 200 delegates from all over the country are expected to attend the event. The convention next year is the first time ATOAI is holding outside Delhi.

“The main objective of the ATOAI Convention will be to draw attention towards the rapidly changing environment and dissemination of messages to protect the environment. About seven gigabyte tonnes of carbon is emitted in the atmosphere every year. In addition to this, greenhouse gases such as Nitrous Oxide and Methane are causing irreversible damage to our planet,”
