Berlin Tourism recently held a press conference in Mumbai, its first independent activity in India. It is part of the India pool and usually participated in activities conducted by India pool and German National Tourist Office (GNTO). In an attempt to attract more number of FIT and leisure travellers to Berlin, Berlin Tourism is in talks with airlines such as Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines, Air India and Lufthansa to operate direct flights from Mumbai to Berlin. The flights will be operational once the new airport in Berlin, the Berlin Brandenburg International Airport opens in 2012.
Burkhard Kieker, CEO, Berlin Tourism said, “Berlin is the number three destination in Europe after London and Paris. Three days in Berlin cost approximately half the price of the same in London, Paris or Milan. Berlin is also an ideal starting point to visit Europe and tourists can visit Poland and other Baltic states without showing their passports. Berlin has so far had the image of a business city.
