The Buddhist Monuments Development Council (BMDC), a national organisation dedicated to promote Buddhist sites in India, informed that this year it is expecting two million Buddhist tourists, while last year it received one million tourists. BMDC mentioned that Buddhist tourist arrivals in India are increasing this year as compared to last year. With the tourist season started in October this year, many Indian travel tour operators have started offering packages to various Buddhist places such as Nalanda, Sarnath, Kushinagar, Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Ajanta and Ellora etc. This information was divulged by Prof Arvind Alok, Chairman, BMDC.
Currently, India receives Buddhist tourists from various countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Colombo, South American countries, Argentina, Prague and Scandinavian countries.
