Ghulam Naqshband, Chairman Emeritus – Le Passage to India, a doyen of the travel and tourism industry passed away on March 5, 2010 in New Delhi. Born in 1924, Naqshband, who was involved with the travel industry, was fondly regarded as the ‘grand old man’ of travel. He worked actively till the last day and was known for his straight forwardness, dedicated approach to work, punctuality, strong articulation and enthusiasm for the world of travel and tourism.
Naqshband was a pillar of strength, discipline and perseverance and was referred popularly as the “Man of Action” owing to his organising and leadership skills. His eclectic interest apart from travel included reading, writing and art. He always said, “It is the hard work with integrity and devotion that ultimately pays dividends.” Naqshband was conferred the Hall of Fame of Award in the year 2000 by the Indian Association of Tour Operators. He is also a recipient of prestigious and international awards including the ‘Timone d’ Oro’ in 1976 and the Hind Ratan Award. |
