‘Breaking Barriers: Believe 2 Achieve’

As the Indian travel industry battles recession, terrorist threat (Mumbai terror attacks) and zero commission issue; this year the annual Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) Convention in Chiang Mai, will focus on the need for travel agents fraternity to re-invent their belief in the industry, as entrepreneurs and innovators. Anita Jain and Krupa Vora highlight the various aspects of the Convention and the way ahead of travel industry in India

‘If any sector sneezes, the travel industry catches a cold.’ This has been proved since the beginning of ‘tourism’ industry; recent cases being global recession, Mumbai terror attacks, H1N1 Influenza (Swine flu) concerns etc. The travel industry experiences a slowdown each time major incidents take place. With the advent of the zero commission regime in India, the Indian travel trade fraternity has been finding various ways to survive in the industry by exploring new avenues. The trade intends to go global, think international and tackle Theme-based Tourism. In short:  Breaking barriers and have belief to achieve new goals and write a new success story.

Pradip Lulla, President, TAFI said, “Today, the travel suppliers are of the opinion that they can reach the end consumers directly and there is no need for travel agents. But they forget that, even today end consumers rely on the assistance of travel agents. Travellers feel a need to consult travel agents before making any final decision on their travel plans.
