Brunei Tourism Development Department (BTDD), the tourism arm of Brunei responsible for tourism development, marketing and promotion is now focusing on India and Middle East to enhance its tourism figures. With the global tourism sector recovering from credit crunch, BTDD is working to market itself in regional and international tourism markets.
A source close to the development said, “India is one of the emerging tourism markets in Asian region. About 590,000 Indians visited Malaysia last year and the numbers are expected to increase this year, while arrivals to Sarawak region are also improving. Due to close geographical proximity from Malaysia and Sarawak region, it’s convenient for travellers to add Brunei in their itinerary and experience a country with unique and affordable travel options. There is still a long way to cover for Brunei tourism and we need to start exploring new markets and consolidate the more obvious markets like Malaysia, Sarawak, Singapore and Indonesia.” However, the department is not planning to have its presence (through representation or regional office) in India for the time being. |
