Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) is using the forthcoming 2010 Winter Olympic Games (February) and the X Paralympic Games (March) in Vancouver and Whistler to promote the destination in its key international markets including India. CTC, as part of its Olympic Games Tourism Strategy has developed in collaboration with Vancouver Organising Committee, a unique Torch Relay International Media Programme, wherein 15 international torch bearers comprising of former Olympic athletes, as well as entertainers and celebrities who embody the spirit of Olympic Games are carrying the flame across Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper was in Mumbai yesterday afternoon, where at a luncheon event he handed over the prototype of the torch and the official torchbearer uniform to Bollywood star, Akshay Kumar to a hearty applause from a gathering comprising of top industrialists, head honchos of corporate world and travel trade.
