In the latest tourism figures released by Department of Tourism (DoT), Cebu City Tourism Commission (CCTC); India has shown a growth of 38 per cent from January to June 2009 as compared to the previous year. A source from CCTC informed that Cebu is now opening itself to new markets like India, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Russia, Denmark etc. apart from traditional markets like US, UK, Korea, Japan. According to the source, the new markets are more attracted to adventure and water sports activities in Cebu City, which is the second biggest in Philippines along with multiple shopping venues.
“The Indian market is one of the most potential tourism markets. We are looking forward to working closely with the Philippines tourism board in India and increase the destination awareness in Indian market,” added the source. The source further stated that CCTC is planning to organise a workshop or trade event in India, but plans are still at a nascent stage. However, India is one of the focus markets and the Commission is looking forward to welcome more Indian tourists this year. |
