Chandigarh Administration planning to develop six theme parks to promote tourism in state

The Union Territory (UT) Administration, Chandigarh is planning to develop six theme parks as part of the tourism promotion initiative. Among the six theme parks, four will be developed in the Southern sectors. The proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) for financial assistance.  Sanjay Kumar, Finance Secretary, UT said that according to the initial plan, ten theme parks were finalized. However, later it was found that three sites were located in the forest area and others were not feasible.

According to a report in the Times of India, the theme parks which have received approval are: Garden of Palms in Sector 42, Valley of Animals and Sunken Garden in Sector 50, Maze Garden in Sector 51, Sculpture Garden in Sector 10, Garden of Conifers in Sector 52 and Tourism Plant Museum, Sector 23. The project is estimated to cost around Rs eight crore and is expected to give a fillip to tourism in the city. An area around 25 acre near the new lake in Sector 42 will be developed for Garden of Palms and Children Adventure Park and will come up as a hub for children of all ages.
