| | The Chandigarh Administration has decided to transform the city from a transit point to a tourism destination and promote it for the same. The decision was taken at the Tourism Advisory Committee meeting held recently in Chandigarh under the chairmanship of Ram Niwas, Union Territory, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Tourism, Chandigarh. At the meeting Niwas emphasised on the need to develop more attractions and upgrade the existing one in the city. He stated that the city’s mesmerising environment itself is a vital feature for promoting Chandigarh as a destination. The Administration has already sent a proposal to the Government of India (GoI) for revamping Island, Plaza and Regulator end of Sukhna Lake.
At the meeting Niwas also spoke about the problem of scarcity of hotel rooms during the major events in the city and stated the need to upgrade the hotel infrastructure.
