In order to come up with a solution to the accommodation shortage in the capital city during the Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the land-owning agency of Delhi, has agreed to make available about 1,500 apartments in different parts of the city, which could function as apartment hotels. These 1,500 apartments, in categories of LIG and MIG (Lower Income Group and Middle Income Group accommodations) are expected to add approximately 4,500 beds during the games.
According to sources in the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), the operational and service aspects of these apartments will be taken care of by India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). The official also revealed that these apartments will become ready by March 2010. |
