DGCA to resolve zero commission issue on September 30, 2009

According to a release from Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in its meeting with the international airlines and the travel agents held today has resolved to settle the zero commission issue on the September 30, 2009. The meeting was attended by representatives from 16 airlines and three travel agents association headed by TAAI and represented by Rajii Rai, President, TAAI.

Acting on the directives of the Kerala and Karnataka High Court with regards to the ongoing communication between international airlines and travel agents on the issue of non-payment of commission by the airlines, the DGCA had earlier issued a letter to the airlines raising questions of non payment of commission to agents. The letter stated that asking customers to pay what was earlier being paid by the airlines was anti- consumer. DGCA had given ample time to the airlines to respond on this issue. DGCA will now approach the legal cell of the Government of India to seek its approval to be able to pass a verdict with regards to zero commission.
