DoT, Government of Andhra Pradesh to form Hyderabad Medical Tourism Promotion Society

To be launched in April 2010

Medical Tourism is the major focus area of the Department of Tourism, Government of Andhra Pradesh and it is in the process of forming Hyderabad Medical Tourism Promotion Society (HMTPS). HMTPS will be launched in April 2010 for which the state tourism department is currently in the process of selecting stakeholders for the Society. HMTPS will work on the required norms for Medical Tourism like maintaining standards, procedures and payment issues.

Speaking with TravelBiz Monitor, Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary – Tourism, Archaeology and Museums, Government of Andhra Pradesh mentioned, “We are currently consulting Ernst and Young to suggest a feasible model for the Society to promote Hyderabad as a Medical Tourism destination. We are looking at having a committee of stakeholders comprising of medical players (hospitals) and travel agents who eventually help in smooth planning for the visiting patients.”
