In a bid to further boost tourism in the state, the Department of Tourism (DoT), Government of Jammu and Kashmir is planning to organise road shows in Southeast Asian countries- Hong Kong, Malaysia, Bangkok and Singapore from April 29, 2010. The state tourism department officials are expecting 40-60 tour operators from the state to attend these road shows. However, Nasir Shah, General Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Alliance (JKTA), has requested the state tourism department to postpone the road show from this month to the next month, as tour operators from the state and Asian countries have to attend various travel marts.
Shah mentioned that this year the state is expecting 75,000 foreign tourist and one million domestic tourists. Moreover, the state has been witnessing huge number of tourists from European countries and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), besides tourists from Far East countries, which is their traditional market. Referring to the new initiative of JKTA, Shah informed that they are planning to invite ambassadors from Commonwealth countries to the state to suggest them to withdraw travel advisories being put on the state. |
