DoT, Govt of Karnataka launches Silver Chariot tours

Creates new itinerary, Southern Splendour for Golden Chariot

The Department of Tourism (DoT), Government of Karnataka recently added Silver Chariot and Southern Splendour to the famed Golden Chariot fleet. G Janardhan Reddy, Tourism Minister, Karnataka launched the extended tour itinerary programme of Golden Chariot, which will take passengers to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, apart from the normal route in Karnataka.

According to a report in Times of India, while the new itinerary has been christened `Southern Splendour', the existing route of the Golden Chariot will be called `Pride of the South'. The extended tour will include temples, heritage towns, Auroville, backwaters and other attractions. The tour will be priced at a higher range due to haulage charges in different states. Passengers can either book the entire two-week-long tour or opt for any one of the packages. The first trip is scheduled for March 15, 2010 and bookings can be made on www.goldenchariot.org. Currently 35 passengers have been confirmed for the first trip.
