E.K. Bharat Bhushan appointed as new interim chief of Air India

In a meeting held last week in New Delhi, chaired by K.M. Chandrasekhar, Cabinet Secretary, Government of India (GoI) and also attended by T. K. A. Nair, Principal Secretary, Prime Minister's Office and M Madhavan Nambiar, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), a decision was taken to appoint an interim Chairman and Managing Director for Air India in place of incumbent Raghu Menon. According to an IANS report, a simultaneous search is also going on to find a regular chief to run the National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL), formed last year after Indian Airlines merged with Air India. Menon, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), is being replaced by another officer from the service, E.K. Bharat Bhushan, who currently serves as Joint Secretary and Financial Adviser in MoCA.

A senior official in MoCA informed that Menon maybe considered for the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). Bhushan will continue to serve as Joint Secretary and Financial Adviser.
