ESOI to conduct workshop on ‘Environment Laws and Sustainable Tourism’ in Amritsar and Kochi

Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) recently conducted a workshop in New Delhi on ‘Environment Laws and Sustainable Tourism,’ which was inaugurated by Sujit Banerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism (MoT). Similar workshops on the same will be conducted from February 4-5, 2010 at Ranjit’s SVAASA, Amritsar and from March 19-20, 2010 at Hotel Casino in Kochi. The workshops will be conducted in partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) India and co-sponsored by MoT and Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) India Chapter.

The workshop will sensitise the tourism service providers on the interface of environmental and forest laws with tourism industry, as well as on the mechanisms to achieve Sustainable Tourism in the country.

Mandip Singh Soin, Senior Vice President, Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) said, “Our recently held workshop in Delhi has been quite encouraging with participation from CEOs, senior executives from travel and hotel industry, as well as forest officials. Hotel Management Institutes are showing interest, with 12 participants from IHM Pusa alone. This shows interest by all stakeholders to promote Sustainable Tourism practices.”
