Egyptian Tourist Authority (ETA) will extend financial assistance to outbound tour operators in India to undertake publicity campaigns to promote Egyptian destinations and packages through media. ETA will bear 50 per cent cost of such campaigns of the tour operators. This was informed by Samy Mahmoud, Under Secretary, Head of International Promotions, ETA. ETA currently works closely with about 25 tour operators in India, including SOTC, Kuoni, etc. Simultaneously, ETA will also unleash advertisement campaigns independently through print and electronic media in the Indian market to promote the country in the market. “We will start our own advertisement campaign in the next one month,” added Mahmoud. He informed that almost half million dollars will be spent in the Indian market during this financial year (July to June) for various promotional campaigns.
When asked about the impact on tourist arrivals to Egypt due to global slowdown, Mahmoud said that ETA expected a 15 per cent drop in visitor numbers this year due to the slow down. “However, we will carry on with our campaigns globally to reduce the impact.
