Ethiopia eyes Indian outbound tourism market and investments

To organise series of workshops in Ethiopia for Indian travel trade

The office of the Consulate General of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, which was set up in Mumbai four months ago is planning to organise a series of business and networking workshops in Ethiopia for Indian travel trade. The first such workshop will be conducted in October 2009. This initiative is a bid to create awareness about Ethiopia as destination for tourism and investment.

“We will take three to four tour operators from India and organise a workshop, where Ethiopian tour operators will inform and guide their Indian counter parts about various tourist destinations and conference facilities in the country,” informed Tekeba H Selassie, Regional Director, India & SE Asia, Ethiopian Airlines. He was speaking on the sidelines of the presentation, Investment Opportunities and Conditions in Ethiopia organised recently in Mumbai by Indian Merchants’ Chamber.  

Commenting on the tourism potential of Ethiopia and tapping the Indian market, H E Genet Teshome, Consul General, Consulate General of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Mumbai said, “Tourism contributes around five to seven per cent of our country's GDP.
