Ethiopian Airlines keen on expanding Indian operations

Appoints Benzy Holidays as GSA for Gujarat market

The national carrier of Ethiopia – Ethiopian Airlines is keen on expanding its Indian operations to cities like Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Currently, the airline operates a daily flight from Mumbai and five weekly flights from Delhi to Addis Ababa (Capital of Ethiopia). Despite the global recession, the airline recorded an average load factor of 77.36 per cent, while the target of the airline was 75 per cent. The average load factor for the first four months (January – April) of this year was 81 per cent.

Talking about the carrier's plans for Indian market, Tekeba H Silassie, Regional Director – India and South East Asia, Ethiopian Airlines said, “The impressive load factors on Indian routes are encouraging us to increase our frequencies and routes in India. In our expansion plans, Chennai (MAA), Hyderabad (HYD) and Ahmedabad (AMD) are in the pipeline, Chennai being the top most priority.”

The carrier has recently assigned Benzy Holidays, part of Akbar Travels as a GSA for Gujarat market to understand the various aspects of Gujarat market. Silassie said, “To tap the full potential of this market,
