Europe: Targeting Resilient India

Talking about the Indian outbound market in particular, approximately ten million travellers visited an international destination last year and an estimate figure of 16 million has been predicted to travel to international destinations by the end of 2010. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has estimated an increase of 4.5 per cent per annum in the travel and tourism economic activity between 2002 and 2012. With an increase in the spending power of an average Indian leading to a change in the lifestyle which includes desire to travel and explore destinations abroad has become mandatory at least once a year. Typically, the Indian traveller chooses various South East Asian destinations for their first international travel experience, primarily due to the value for money offerings, proximity of the destination and destination awareness amongst Indian consumers. European destinations emerges as second choice for international travel, United Kingdom and Switzerland being havens for the market till now.
