Started in 2006, Bengaluru-based redBus.in aimed at breaking barriers and bringing bus operators, travel agents and end consumers onto one platform on the ‘Internet’. With the launch, the company brought major bus operators online and started molding the un-organised bus sector in India. The portal received outstanding response from the first day of its launch and in 2007-08 fiscal; it was successful in generating 300-400 bookings per day. The numbers kept increasing with over 2,000 bookings per day in 2008-09 and 3,000 in 2009. Today, it sells bus tickets on Internet, mobile phones, as well as delivers it at the end consumer’s doorstep. With an aim to further improvise on the bus segment in India, the company introduced Bus Operators Software System (BOSS) for managing and aggregating the bus inventory of independent bus operators in India.
Phanindra Sama, Co-Founder and CEO, redBus.in said, “2006 was the year when Indians were getting tech savvy and started opening up to ideas of booking travel products (railways and air tickets) online. Internet penetration was increasing not only in urban but rural parts of India as well. |
