| | Finnair announced yesterday that it will be temporarily suspending its flights to Mumbai from May until mid-October this year due to unfavorable economic conditions. According to an Agencies report, the company also cited overcapacity on the Mumbai-Europe routes. As per the company statement Petteri Kostermaa, Vice President, Route Strategy and Traffic Planning, Finnair said, “The overcapacity has driven airfare levels radically down and cost level has not declined respectively. Market condition for the entire summer period looks bleak.” The company further informed that its flights to New Delhi will continue as normal during the summer period. Like many other airlines, Finnair has faced weaker profitability amid the financial crisis as the number of passengers has declined alongside tickets prices. The airline has started to cut costs, jobs and routes to boost profitability. Finnair currently flies to Mumbai from Helsinki four times a week. | | Read complete story >> (You need to login first to read complete story). New User? Register for FREE! |
