Travelport, the parent company of Galileo and Apollo GDS which acquired Worldspan last year, will launch a new desktop globally in 2009, which will offer products and services from all the three GDS companies. The new desktop is expected to be launched in the Quarter One or Two of 2009. The desktop, which will have a global roll out, will offer inventory of air tickets, non-traditional products (non-air) and solutions from these three companies benefiting the travel agents across the globe. “India will also feature as a part of the new desktop and agents will be able to access inventory with a wide range of products and services,” said Marco Gorin, Market Development Director Asia, Travelport.
Furthermore, for the India market, Galileo is contemplating to add non-traditional products like the inventory of Indian Railways, buses and also Indian hotels including alternative accommodation like houseboats. As the bus transportation sector is highly unorganised, Galileo plans to offer the inventory in a phased manner, however the time frame to launch these products was not disclosed. |
