GoI grants Tourism Authority of Thailand requisite permission to set up office in Mumbai

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has got the requisite permission from the Government of India (GoI) to open an office in Mumbai. Government of Thailand has allocated a budget for TAT to find a suitable location for the office where it will be easily accessible, informed Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, Director, TAT, New Delhi Office. The budget allocation is however not known. TAT is planning to start operations in the Mumbai office by year-end. It also plans to appoint a new Director and Assistant Director for the TAT office in Mumbai.

As reported by TravelBiz Monitor earlier, the Mumbai office will oversee tourism promotion in South India, West India, Sri Lanka and Maldives. The TAT New Delhi office will oversee North India, Bangladesh and Nepal after the launch of the Mumbai office. Currently, the TAT New Delhi office administers Thailand tourism promotion in India and South East Asia.

TAT, which was formed in 1960 to promote tourism, has been recently considering India as one of the top inbound markets and has appreciated India by calling it a rising star from Asia in a recently concluded TTM plus 2009 in Bangkok.
