The Department of Tourism (DoT), Government of Karnataka has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from private players for tourism and infrastructure project development across various tourism destinations in the state. The projects will come up on a Design-Build-Operate-Transfer (DBOT) basis. The DoT will provide land for the projects on a 30 year lease period. The EoIs will have to be submitted by March 30, 2009.
“Immense tourism potential in certain pocket areas has prompted the tourism department to look at tourism infrastructure development i.e. mid-segment and budget hotels, restaurants, theme parks and retail and civic amenities at tourism spots like the Jog Falls, Banavasi, Belur, Bijapur and Agumbe,” stated an official from Karnataka State Industrial Investment & Development Corporation (KSIIDC). However, exact finalisation period of the bidder is yet to be notified. DoT will conduct a pre-bid meeting on March 16, 2009.
The DoT has floated proposals under four packages. The first package invites for development at Jog Falls on three acres of land — a three-star hotel, a theme park, restaurant, retail and civic amenities are planned. |
